Rush Pike

A Message from Jon Klonower, Recruitment Chairman:

Dear Member of Class of 2015 and Family,

Congratulations on your acceptance into Southwestern University, but more importantly, on your ultimate decision to make Southwestern your home for the next four years. I truly believe that attending Southwestern for my undergraduate career was one of the most important choices I have ever made. In fact, I would go as far as to say that it has been the most important. However, my choice to rush and pledge a Greek organization stands as a clear second.

I realize that fraternities are probably not on your mind at this time as you are going to graduation parties, hanging out with friends, and saying good-bye to teachers, friends, and family. However, you will soon come to realize that Greek organizations play a vital role on SU’s campus. In two of the past years, Greeks have won Campus Organization of the Year for their immense contributions to Southwestern. Furthermore, the other organizations that have recently won have been primarily composed of Greeks. If you are seeking to become an involved member of the campus community, I can promise you that you should be thinking Greek.

Not only does Greek keep you involved on campus, but it adds a tremendous amount of value to your college investment. Over two-thirds of our members go on to graduate and professional schools. Another bonus is that most Pikes find summer and academic internships in firms, labs and businesses of Pike alumni. With an alumni base from our chapter at Southwestern and an alumni base in the 100,000s from the fraternity internationally, it is not hard to find an internship that interests you.

Whether you ultimately choose to pledge a Greek fraternity, a service fraternity, or join any of the one hundred organizations on campus, I can promise you that like me, you will not regret your decision. Just like you will be looking for the best organization for yourself, we Pikes are looking for a specific group of men to join our ranks. As you will see, the men of Pi Kappa Alpha pride themselves in our dominance of scholarship, leadership, athleticism, and campus involvement. As a result, our fraternity reinforces academic pursuits, gentlemanly behavior, development of leadership, daily and large-scale, personal ethics, and offers the advantages of team effort and support.

We invite you to see what Pi Kappa Alpha is all about this upcoming fall. If you have a Facebook account, we invite you to join our group, Rush Pi Kappa Alpha, which features all our upcoming rush events during the summer and fall, all of them leading to Formal Rush the first week of the Spring Semester. Also, please do not hesitate to contact me, or any of my brothers if you have any questions. I will leave you with this piece of advice: Whether you choose to ultimately go Greek or not, join an organization that you will be passionate about. It will keep you active and will allow you to meet people you otherwise might not have.

Have a good summer, and I hope to see you sometime in the fall.
